Persona 6, the latest instalment in the massively-popular anime RPG series centred around the exploits and inner musings of hip, trendy Japanese high schoolers, has had a new trailer revealed in this September's general Nintendo Direct broadcast following its initial announcement in June of this year. The Altus/Sega published game will be the first entirely-fresh entry in the series following the release of Persona 5 in 2016, exactly a decade ago now. Following that, a brand-new montage comprising previously-unseen in-game footage for Persona 4 Revival (a complete remake of Persona 4 Golden) received its debut showing in Nintendo's release reel. Yo-kai Watch, a creature hunting/collecting/battling Pokemon-like RPG which focusses on stylised twists on Japanese folklore spirits is to see a Yo-kai Watch 2: Hunted Domain European release in the foreseeable future. No specific release date was announced. Yo-kai Watch is a prominent IP in Japan and quite well-known among kids there, but it hasn't caught on as much here in Britain, so it will be interesting to see how it lands.

In other news, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the latest instalment in Monolith Soft's gargantuan RPG classical Japanese fantasy behemoth is getting its Nintendo Switch 2 edition on 3rd December. It will include a brand new character, Shimmer, who's special abilities include foresight and the ability to predict the future. It will be fully and easily upgradeable from the original Switch base game if you've already got it. Bandai Namco-published Ondeh Ondeh Kaya's Tasty Tale is coming in 2027 and looks to be a whimsically cute hand-drawn-style puzzle adventure. The latest Mega Man game from Capcom, the 2D-but-with-modern-visuals Dual Override is shaping up to be quite the tasty proposition indeed and its release will coincide with Mega Man's (or Rockman, as he is known in Japan) 40th Anniversary.

Eternal Anima by Marvelous Inc. (Harvest Moon, Doraemon) is a brand-spanking new RPG with a mystical aura and a time-travel mechanic and its core. It will release in Europe on 4th March 2027. Danganronpa, the madcap "oh look, the central villain is a cuddly cute bear who's also a sociopathic killer" anime game series known for combining whodunnit hijinks with a court of law-centred "accuse the possible culprit or be executed yourself" conceit sees its latest release Danganronpa 2x2 (Spike Chunsoft) unleashed on the world on 14th January of next year. FATAL Fury: City of the Wolves by fighter veterans SNK should keep fans of '90s brawlers very happy indeed, and Tokyo Revengers fans will be pleased to know that season pass 3 will feature main characters Manjiru Sano and Ken Ryuguji as playable characters. Metal Slug Ultimate Collection, also by arcade-perfect console fetishists SNK is set to be the most comprehensive compilation of the inordinately-detailed arcade juggernauts yet. It includes Metal Slug 1-6, 7, Advance, and for the first time on consoles, the original Metal Slug Location Test Version as a fully playable title. It will also includes online co-op, a gallery mode and more.

Yu-Gi-Oh! TAG FORCE GX by esteemed developers Konami takes the popular card-collecting game and parses it into a fun card battler where you've got to advance through tournaments with the right partner (duel/dual, a one-on-one fight and containing lots of two, geddit?). Beyond the Final Fantasy games for which they're primarily known, turn-based RPG Gods Square Enix are also working on a fully-modernised remake of 1995's Romancing SaGa 3, a historical fantasy turn-based odyssey that never saw release outside of Japan until 2019, so fans will be happy that this reimagining will hit Europe as soon as its ready on 16th February 2027.

As comprehensively reported here by Ross Locksley earlier today, The Apothecary Diaries: False Imperial Brother releases across most major platforms, including both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, in early 2027. Dragon Quest Monsters : The Withered World is there to satiate any desire by fans of the traditional RPG to go Pokemon-style by having monsters you captured yourself fight by proxy with a playable demo available today from the Nintendo eShop. Speaking of '90s RPG games with Akira Toriyama character designs, a classic HD version of 1993's Dragon Quest spin-off Torneko's Mystery Dungeon is due for imminent release on our shores with a specific date as yet unannounced.
