Chiikawa’s cute movie has surpassed 11 Billion yen in the box office and attracted over 7 million viewers since its release in late July. To celebrate, 4DX screenings will be available at only 65 theaters across Japan starting September 5th 2026.
Adapted from renowned illustrator Nagano’s ‘Siren Arc’, a highly popular episode in the ‘Chiikawa: The Secret of the Mermaid Island’ manga series found on X, the 4DX experience is expected to transport the audience straight into Chiikawa’s world with interactive vigor!
Following its massive success, it’s been decided that cheering screenings where audience participation is encouraged, and a farewell screening are to be included too.
On September 11th, just seven theaters will be hosting an exclusive NantokanaRae! vocal support screening from 7pm. Viewers can enjoy actively partaking in the main story by shouting at Chiikawa and friends!
Continuing on September 23rd, a cheering screening with an automatic penlight control effect that changes colour in sync with the characters' actions will be shown, allowing viewers to experience the action in an adorably novel way.
Additionally, an ‘Until We Meet Again’ screening will be shown at the selected theaters, with Chiikawa and the others appearing on screen after the movie screening to thank and see fans off after watching.
