Two-decades after it's heyday J-Horror continues to release new movies; some may recall Takashi Shimizu's recent Sana; and now releasing on digital platforms in UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand on 13th July is Kenichi Ugan's The Curse, which had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest 2025, where it won the ‘Best Kill’ award. Its UK premiere was at FrightFest Glasgow.

The Curse

Synopsis:

In this terrifying homage to J-horror classics including Ringu and Ju-on, young Tokyo receptionist Riko decides to investigate her friend's violent death. Convinced there is more to the story than suicide, she delves through social media into a world of memes and influencers looking for answers.

As the pile of bodies grows, Riko and her friends travel to Taiwan to uncover the source of this supernatural curse before she is consumed by it.
