Japan Foundation panel on Leiji Matsumoto online March 27th

Posted on 07 Mar 2024

The Japan Foundation is hosting an online panel to discuss the life and works of Japanese legend Leiji Matsumoto on March 27th at midnight GMT.  The event is free to watch and you can book a ticket on the Eventbrite website (link below).

Description of the event:

One year has passed since we lost Japanese manga and anime legend Leiji Matsumoto, known for Space Battleship Yamato and Galaxy Express 999 as well as Interstella 5555, his collaboration with Daft Punk. His works led the anime boom of 1970s and 1980s in Japan, influencing creators around the world. His philosophical themes brought about an era in which anime and manga took their place alongside mainstream films and literature to become a global phenomenon.

Come join our panel discussion with four manga and anime experts: Darren-Jon Ashmore, Deborah Shamoon, Tim Eldred and Zack Davisson. They will introduce Matsumoto’s legacy and dive into the universal appeal and essence of the “Matsumoto style” on the first anniversary of his passing.

Q&A:
The discussion will be followed by a live Q&A. If you have any questions about Leiji Matsumoto and his works, now’s your chance to ask the experts! Please feel free to post it on the Eventbrite page when you register. Live commentary will also be enabled on the YouTube stream, so you can participate in the Q&A session.

This is a FREE event. Registrants will receive the link to the stream via email.
