Manga to Anime Short Film Contest

Posted on 14 Feb 2022

Animator Supporters, a charitable organisation run by Jun Sugawara since 2010, has created a contest to turn your manga into an anime.

The aim is to create recognition for manga creators through animation, something we wholeheartedly support. It's great to see so much creative energy, so if you have a manga you want to see brought to life, you can find the full details on their competition page here:

The group have also created a video for the competition too:

From the Press Release:

The prize pool consists of $1,350 for third place, $2,700 for second place, $4,500 for first place. Additionally, the first-place entry will be adapted into an anime short film of about 5 minutes in length by professional Japanese animators.

This is perhaps the first manga contest the world has ever seen where the winning entry gets adapted into an anime.

Pro or hobbyist, it doesn’t matter. Anyone can participate. Older works can also be submitted provided that they have not been published in any official serializations. The deadline to apply is September 30th, 2022.

We want to create the opportunity for your work to gain widespread recognition through adaptation.

Currently, many manga are adapted into anime. Of them, there are works that are easier to adapt and harder to adapt. There have been many manga in the past where, although the comics themselves are amazing, they don’t receive anime adaptations.

We started this contest because we would like to shine a spotlight on these great works and create an opportunity for them to receive more public recognition through adaptation.

If you want to support Animator Supporters further, there's a crowdfunding campaign to help assist animators with their living costs through subsidised dormitories over on gogetfunding.com.
