Sailor Moon Season 1 has been rated by the UK's BBFC

Breaking from AnimeBlurayUK is a report that the BBFC has provided a classification (15) for 1992's Sailor Moon, which was announced back in 2024 at London MCM Comic Con by Crunchyroll.

Interestingly this seemingly high rating appears to stem from themes in episode 4's "How to be Skinny with Usagi", where the focus is on a boy  secretly taking photos of Usagi (leading to categorisations of "sexual threat" and "sexual violence") and Usagi's weight loss which gained it another tick against "sexualising a woman's body".

Crunchyroll have confirmed that each season will be released uncut in seasonal sets complete with English and Japanese dubs alongside 19 minutes of additional material.

It will be interesting to see how Sailor Moon performs - it was one of MVM's earliest releases when the show was actually airing on UK TV, but remains to this day one of the biggest flops of their licensing history.

With the rating now obtained and paid for, further news should be expected shortly.
