Visual novel Be Missed and Remembered: The Letter from Mayoiga announced

Tokyo-based OVERLAP Inc has created a new Visual Novel publishing arm, OVERLAP Games. Today, they announced their first title: Be Missed and Remembered: The Letter from Mayoiga from Nekoneko Soft.

OVERLAP is best known for delivering light novels, comics and anime so the addition of a visual novel publishing arm feels like a natural progression.

About the game:

The story takes place fifty years ago — in 1972, during Japan’s Showa era. A high school student heads out to the countryside, to his grandparents’ home. It’s a small summer getaway, something he’s done every year. Together with his younger sister, he spends peaceful days among the villagers... But soon, the lines between past and present — and between hearts — begin to blur.

A fleeting summer tale quietly unfolds.

Features:

  • A chapter-based structure with full voice acting.
  • Total playtime: roughly 7–10 hours.
  • Tuned to a length that makes you want to binge straight through to the end.
  • No complex controls—just read and sink into the world of the story.
  • After finishing, revisit event CGs anytime in the built-in Gallery mode.

The game will be released fully voiced in Japanese and featuring English subtitles.

Trailer:

You can keep tabs on the game via the Steam page, you can also Wishlist on Steam

Message from Tomo Kataoka, writer at Nekoneko Soft:

Hey everyone, I’m Tomo Kataoka — apparently a “charismatic writer”!

Yeah...that “charismatic” part? It’s kind of a funny story.

Back when I released the light novel Narcissu, someone on the publishing team randomly tagged me with it. Guess they couldn’t come up with anything else, huh?

Anyway, thanks to that strange twist of fate, I’m now teaming up with OVERLAP GAMES on this new project!

It’s a huge honor to be working on the very first title under their brand, and I’m hoping to earn myself another weird little title this time too!

As for the story, after chatting with our producer Mr. Kamioka, We decided to go with a theme that blends rural Japan, folklore, and that nostalgic Showa-era vibe. As an old guy who loves Showa music, I honestly can’t wait to share it with everyone!

Speaking personally, both as a writer and as a reader, I’ve never been too into stories that are all battles and no real substance. Rather than wrapping things up with a sudden “Miracle!” or “God shows up!” moment, I prefer endings that feel earned — ones that grow naturally from everything that came before.

And those stories that start out exciting but eventually drag on with endless slice-of-life scenes...yeah, those kind of lose me too. I want a story that keeps you hooked all the way through, purely by the power of its storytelling.

(But hey, I’m all for having a generous dose of moe, too!)

If you happen to feel the same way, I’d be really happy if you gave this one a shot. It’s not a heavy or dark story — so no worries! ><
