Iron Factory Wing Guard

Posted on 12 May 2023

Well, here's a company I didn't think I'd be revisiting. Iron Factory were my de-facto Legends scale figures of choice a few years ago, their modernised take on the G1 characters were creative and well-made with plenty of character, in particular their fembot characters such as Windblade, Arcee and Slipstream. I even managed to secure a transparent Windblade which sits proudly on the shoulder of Utopia (a third party Metroplex) in my Legends display to this day.

However, once Newage burst onto the scene (and to a lesser extent, Magic Square) we suddenly had faithful G1 representations of our favourite characters and, in the case of Newage, to a level of build and paint quality that even Masterpiece-scale figures often failed to match.

So I quietly sold off the Iron Factory figures - Prime, Magnus, Jetfire, the DJD, all save the fembots and (for now) their Bruticus departed for new homes. And then they drop a trio of female Decepticon seekers on us, repaints of the excellent Shrike's Feather (Slipstream) in glorious original Seeker colours. There's even an updated head for Shrike's Feather, and all of this lands at an inflation-defying £40.

Wow.

The gang's all here!

So we have Skywarp, Starscream and Thundercracker, or their female equivalents, in all their incredibly cute glory. I really can't overstate how much fun these are for the money, each with their own unique expression (shouty, sneering, stoic) with huge eyes and fun proportions.

The proportions are a cheat of course, the actual cockpits sit on their shoulders like a hoodie, with the torsos being static on the underbelly of the jet mode. Transformation is simple - collapse the legs, flip the wings, fold out the fins and slot the arms into the holes - from above and below you get this result:

Not Subtle

That said, at around £12 a piece (Shrike's Feather was £28 on her own) these are great little bots to fiddle with, perfect for a desk and constructed with quality materials. There's a flight stand adaptor for each character in plane mode, so you can have them flying in formation, but you'll need to invest in some stands.

In all, I really can't recommend these enough - they're an absolute bargain that just beg to be fiddled with, so do yourself a favour and grab them before they're gone. Check out ShowZ and Bombusbee for stock.
